While these regulations seemed like a fair compromise, the United States government has instituted a change which suddenly loosened the regulations surrounding satellite imagery policies. Other regulations mentioned that certain photography resolution thresholds must not be breached.

These regulations required that some portions of the pictures be blurred out. Defenders of Google Earth and Street View argued that regulations surrounding satellite and street view images being posted on the Internet made it difficult for malicious people to get anything of value from the images. In some circumstances, Google Earth and Street View are tools that have immensely helped people gain their bearing in a foreign place. Google Street View pushed the boundaries of personal privacy even further by providing a street-side picture of your home or business for the world to see. This gross invasion of privacy can involuntarily give the world a glimpse at your home, your belongings and your surroundings. Google Earth provides the public with the ability to access satellite pictures of any coordinates just by simply dragging the mouse.

Such satellite imagery in maps will most definitely open a whole new world of use case applications of digital maps.When Google Earth first debuted in 2005, privacy advocates reacted by overwhelmingly rejecting the new satellite imagery platform.

This near-real-time image data will provide them the knowledge as to where action needs to be taken. Often, the municipal bodies do not have real-time information about garbage and are not able to remove it in a timely manner. It will benefit civic authorities to address various challenges of our cities. These maps would also be extremely helpful during large events like melas, and cricket matches. With this, everyone would be able to see the actual traffic condition, parking availability, crowding, any weather-related incident like water logging, and much more. What I would like is the availability of near-real-time satellite images in digital maps. Soon, India will see 3D content coming up in these maps. Digital maps have made our lives easier, helping us find restaurants, shops, offices, and navigate us to the right location.
